A review of the Barlaston 2008 weekend by Annete Cooke
The weekend at Barlaston last year was a once again wonderful experience. It is something I look forward to every year and always enjoy. This year was no exception. The weekend was led by Lina Mookerjee from the Praxis school of Yoga in Nottingham.
After a promising morning at Hanchurch we arrived at Barlaston on a lovely sunny afternoon.
The weekend theme was “The Good Life” and I for one was intrigued with the title
Having attended Lina’s classes before, I was confident that the weekend would be special, I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
Lina has a unique approach, she is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to yoga history and philosophy and combines this with an in depth knowledge and interest in Psychologist Carl Roger’s theory of personality.
Over the weekend we were encouraged to “look within” and explore through asana meditation, pranayama and visualisation “The Good Life” and what this meant to each of us on a personal level which we all discussed. This enabled us as a group to bond in a very special way. We explored the parallels between yoga philosophy and Roger’s theory and found profound similarities.
On Saturday evening Lina introduced a light hearted session of mantra and singing which was very enjoyable, and the weather was kind enough to allow a lovely out door meditation on Sunday afternoon.
The weekend was very well planned, we covered a lot of ground and were given well thought out handouts to complement the course.
It was a delight to find that the accommodation at Barlaston had been updated with new bedroom furniture and the rooms re-decorated, the food was excellent. The weather was kind and this together with Lina’s gentle, wise, encouraging tuition made this all in all, a memorable, lovely weekend.

This weekend has been run by our Fellowship for over twenty-five years but if we make another loss this year it will not be able to run in 2010. Please, try your very best to give it your support. Once you have attended I know you will want to come each year.
